The worst thing about being a grownup? It’s quite stressful! At the end of a long day, there is nothing better than getting home and making sure to properly unwind and relax. I would call myself quite the expert in having a relaxing evening routine, because I want to make the most of my time and really enjoy my downtime.
Is there anything better than having a hot shower at the end of a long day? I think not. Now that it’s getting cooler I might even indulge in a bath or two… It’s the best feeling, having a little pamper and then getting into fresh pyjamas. I’m definitely a grandma at heart, but I’m not mad about it because I’m all about being cosy. I love this Senspa lavender body butter, it smells so relaxing and moisturises skin nicely.
Get lost in a good book
I’ve gone on a bit of a book hype recently; I just can’t stop myself from reading! I’ve gone through some Jacqueline Wilson, Philippa Gregory, Alison Weir and I’m moving onto some more history books. This book, The Perfume Lover, was something I picked up after going to the perfume exhibition at Somerset House (amazing, by the way). I think it’s the prettiest book cover around! Reading is one of those things where it’s easy to skip it but when you do, you get addicted. The best feeling is finding a book you can’t wait to get back to, it just makes me so happy getting lost in a new read. I’m reading on the tube home, and then I’m making an effort to spend thirty minutes reading before bed. It makes me so much more relaxed, and I can notice such a difference in my imagination when I’m reading a book a week.
Burn baby, burn
Along with curling up with a good book, I love lighting a candle as well. I have favourites from Diptyque, Jo Malone and Muji, because I just love to burn my money. I’m currently burning this Lily & Ylang Ylang one from Heyland & Whittle, which just smells delicious. It manages to make my whole flat smell fragrant! The act of burning a candle means to me that you’re actively settling down for the night, so that’s relaxing in itself.
Time to snooze
My final step before snoozing would be to have a hot drink! The cosiest finish to the evening. I absolutely love ovaltine (#NotSponsored) and find having a cup whilst reading my book in bed means I fall asleep in about five seconds. I also love listening to audio books as I drift off (but mostly Harry Potter…).
