Just like there’s the right pair of shoes to complement every dress out there, there’s the perfect base for every situation. Weekend brunch when you’re feeling low-maintenance? Daytime polished skin? Full coverage for a night out? I’ve got all bases covered…
The low-key base
For the ultimate in low-maintenance makeup looks, the It Cosmetics CC cream is my absolute go-to. It’s beautifully light on the skin, but with excellent coverage and good glow. Plus it smells like lemons. I tend to use this on the weekends, and just blend it in with the fingers haphazardly. Supremely easy, but it magically makes skin look a lot more polished. If you hate the feeling of heavy bases but don’t love other CC creams that offer minimal coverage, then this will definitely be the base for you…
One for polished skin
Taking it up a step with the base is the Clinique even better glow; perfect for illuminating the skin and making everything look a lot dewier and healthier (all I ever want). It’s light and comfortable on the skin, but is easily buildable should you want some further coverage… I find it works best used in conjunction with some concealers where additional coverage is needed, as this maintains the lovely glow.
The full-coverage base
Sometimes (read, most of the time), I just want a really full coverage base. For when you want skin to look like it’s got a filter over it, I reach for something that adds plenty of luminosity and coverage, like the Charlotte Tilbury magic foundation. It’s thick, and works best when blended in with a damp beauty blender. I like this one in particular because it still maintains the look of skin looking like skin. It’s perfected skin, but the whole affair doesn’t look too plastic and it’s not too heavy. Perfect for when you go out out.
The finishing touch
Finishing things off is the Glossier Wowder, which is a silky-soft finishing powder perfect for patting into the skin to set makeup or to banish shine. It has a very fine texture that glides across the skin, and it definitely melts into the complexion without looking overtly cakey or heavy. A powder for those who aren’t fans of traditional powders (and not one you’d bake with!). The design has a mesh, which stops it from being too messy and from getting too much powder in one go so it’s virtually impossible to go overboard with it.
