A Full Coverage Affair

Of all the makeup products I take joy in applying, foundation remains one of the greats. Instantly transforming my skin from red & blotchy to smooth and even in a flash; the right one really can be magic in a bottle. I’ve tried, and loved, many greats in my time but I remain easily swayed. Each new launch with its claims of perfection inevitably pique my interest and the Faux Filter foundation from Huda Beauty was no exception. Even better, this one promised to give me Instagram-ready skin from the Queen of flawless makeup.

The foundation was made by Huda after her journey to disguise her own problematic skin and so it’s a foundation designed to cover all and to blur imperfections. For redness, blemishes or uneven tone, this foundation covers pretty much everything and leaves it all looking diffused. The range is also for all skin tones, with 30 different shades for all undertones. It is full coverage. A little dot goes a long way in covering pretty much anything you want. I think getting exactly the right shade is going to be important here, because otherwise it might look a little mask-like. I’m the shade Vanilla, for reference.

The finish on this definitely leans towards the matte side of things, in that it doesn’t necessarily need to be powdered. It’s also important to note that the more you use, the drier it looks. It’s best used in small amounts layered onto the skin to make sure it doesn’t look patchy or dry at all. When applied using a damp beauty blender in light layers, it covers immensely but also does impart some daytime-friendly luminosity into the skin. It’s matte, but a modern matte and it still manages to maintain a slightly skin-like finish.

My skin is particularly dry and dehydrated at the moment, and I did notice after a day of wear that it had gone a little patchy in the driest areas. I think normal or oily skins would be absolutely fine, and dry skins would just need to make they’re primed probably and something like Mac Fix + will leave it looking fresh again right away. In terms of longevity, it pretty much doesn’t budge when it’s on – a double cleanse is definitely required at the end of the day to make sure it’s completely removed. Lightweight it is not…
