Kat Von D Studded Kiss 2.0

Hands up who loves lipstick? Yup, I raised both hands because I am a lipstick fiend. New to my stash are the revamped studded kiss lipsticks from Kat Von D, which have been reformulated to have a creamier formula and to be more comfortable to wear. Cased in an ergonomically-pleasing studded case, there are 40 new shades (from nude to grey and everything in between) and 3 new finishes to try…

The brand

I’ve been using Kat Von D makeup for a good few years now – I’ve been obsessed with Kat for ages and ages. I used to obsessively watch her on Miami Ink and how she has an entire beauty empire. I used to buy some of the makeup and ship it over from the US via Sephora, but now it’s infinitely easier to get through Debenhams. Kat Von D is known for her edgier shades and she has quite a few cult products – the liner, foundation, liquid lips and shadows, to name a few. There are some gorgeous new launches coming soon, too! There’s an eyeshadow palette and studded kiss lipstick made in collaboration with drag queen, Divine, that looks amazing.

The formula

So the studded kiss formula has been entirely reformulated to be creamier, more pigmented and more comfortable to wear. Having tried the old formula, the new one is a lot smoother on the lips and definitely a more modern matte. It’s a bold colour with a soft and light texture on the lips. I admire when a brand admits that their products could be better, and works to improve the formula. Factories, technology and ingredients are constantly evolving so it makes sense for brands to improve their lines, too. One big change in this formula is that they’re all now 100% vegan! So good to see a brand offer trend-led vegan products.

The shades

I’ve got two of the shades – Lolita 2 and Lovecraft. They’re both already available in the existing liquid lipstick formula, so good if you obsess over a shade. I definitely obsess over Lovecraft, so I’m really excited to have it available in different textures. It’s a light mauve-pink-nude shade that leans a little cool. If you like Mac pink plaid, then this is an excellent alternative. Bronze shadows and then pink lips are one of my favourite easy makeup looks for something a little bit girly. Lolita 2 is one of the brand’s cult classic shades, and it’s definitely one of those perfect 90s nude shades. Think Kylie Jenner a few years ago when everyone obsessed over what lipliner she was using. It’s a little bit of a terracotta shade that would flatter a lot of skin tones and would especially good with loads of liquid liner and an excess of mascara.
