A new year called for a lipstick switch-up; a fresh start seemed like the right time to play around with my makeup bag. At the moment I’m definitely embracing a nude lip, and really trying to go along with the Huda foundation (amazing stuff!) and loads of eyeshadow and liner.
I think Tom Ford has to always feature in a lipstick edit because they are the best of the best. I have loads of shades I love, but I think Pussycat is my favourite. It’s matte and has a mauve tone it and… it’s a must-have. Such a pretty shade. Ideally I would like to wear it with a face of Tom Ford makeup and a wardrobe, but I’ll settle for the lipstick for now.
Two similar shades are Charlotte Tilbury English Beauty and Mac Brave – both obviously essential. Brave is slightly rosier, and it’s definitely a good option for a super natural, low-key makeup look. It’s a little balmy in texture, so you can apply it sans mirror (like when you’re dashing to the tube like me) with minimal fuss. English Beauty leans a little more beige in tone, and it’s the absolute perfect match to my go-to slightly smoky eye of the moment (more on that Sunday…). At this point, Tilbury has yet to make a lipstick I don’t like!
Lastly is the Pixi MatteLast liquid lip in the shade Really Rose, which is just such a pretty everyday hue for when you want a flush of colour. Not too deep or dramatic, but perfect for when you don’t want a nude that might was you out. It gives Rose in Titanic vibes to me, which is always a big tick. The formula on these is what sets them apart; it’s really reignited my love for the good old liquid lip. Creamy, pigmented and very long-lasting without being overtly drying – these are well worth checking out ahead of your next makeup haul.
