I’m just a girl, standing in front of a cleanser, asking it to perform magic. Finding the right balance of products to achieve perfection is too much pressure (perfection would be boring anyway), so we’re going to aim for flawless. Quickly, because it’s all about the Five Things To Do Today For Flawless Skin.
Drink more water
Yeah, yeah. Old news. I promise the awesome power of drinking a lot of water is not to be ignored. Your body craves more water, and drinking a lot of it really does make your skin look better. Dehydrated skin? Needs more water, obviously. Dry skin? More water will help. Oily skin? Yup, water will help! At the very least, drinking five pints will make a difference to your skin. That’s one when you wake up, mid-morning, with your lunch, mid-afternoon and before bed. Water. It’s going to catch on any day now…
I’m so sure that by now, everyone knows about the benefits of double cleansing. If not… bear with me! Double cleansing is so brilliant because the first cleanse is what gets the grime off of your face – the makeup, the spf, the pollutants and the general dirt on your skin at the end of a long day. Simple. The second cleanse is what really treats the skin and can be more targeted towards your specific skincare concern. The pixi x Caroline Hirons is an excellent 2-in-1 jar that I’ve used up a couple of times. Newer to my stash is the Pestle & Mortar duo – I had the pleasure of meeting the founder, Sonia, a few weeks back and she talked me through all the products. The balm is really oily and moveable in texture, and gets rid of makeup quickly. The gel cleanser is good for adding some brightness to the skin. Clever stuff.
Find a routine that works for you
Pick some products and stick to them! Consistency is king when it comes to getting flawless skin. Applying an SPF every morning is a non-negotiable step to make sure your skin is as healthy as possible, and then doing the same things day-in and day-out will make such a difference to the overall happiness of your skin. It’s good to finish products up before moving onto the next big thing (need to take my own advice here).
Pat, don’t rub
Treat your skin like a facialist would. Firm, sweeping motions when cleansing, hot fluffy flannels and pressing product into the skin. For serums and oils, gently pressing them into the skin means you take the time to apply them properly and therefore getting better results. Quickly rubbing a serum over your face in two seconds just doesn’t feel as nice, either. This works really with essences as well, for ultimate hydration!
Make sure your skincare is season-appropriate
Have you made the switch between heavy cosseting balms for winter for lighter textures? Now might be the perfect time to do so… If you’re looking to lighten things up, the new Nuxe Aquabella range, via Escentual, is a perfect way to do it. It’s designed for combination skin so it’s a good one for light hydration without making everything feel too oily. The micro-exfoliating purifying gel is particularly lovely for a morning cleanse, because it really gently smooths the skin and leaves the face feeling fresh. There’s also an essence lotion and a super light emulsion.
