Hay fever sufferers, unite. I know that this year is particularly bad for the pollen count and my eyes are suffering for it. In the quest to make sure my eye makeup doesn’t look smudged all over my face, I’m turning to the Best Tubing Mascaras. Tubing mascaras are like regular mascaras in terms of application, but the formula sets them apart. It literally tubes the lashes in product and then can only be removed with warm water at the end of the day. Making them… heatproof, smudge-proof and hay fever-proof.
DHC Double Protection Mascara
The DHC Double Protection Mascara from Japan is one of the original tubing mascaras, and one of the best around. It’s also a favourite of Emma Watson, due to its long-wearing ability. It also manages to maintain the look of lashes looking soft and fluttery all day long, without everything feeling like it’s coated in layers of product.
Formula wise, it’s pretty subtle in terms of its lengthening and volumnising capabilities. It can definitely be built up to something more dramatic, but it’s not going to give overly dramatic lashes in just one coat. Rather, it’s a cleaner finish that works well for daily use. To remove it, I just hold a warm flannel on the lids for a minute or so. The fibres break down really quickly and then just rinse away.
Clinique Lash Power
Let me introduce you to one of the more dramatic formulas of tubing mascaras… Clinique’s Lash Power. It’s got the same smudge-proof formula as the others but I think the inverted hourglass shape really helps to pump in some volume for the lashes. The tapered size of the brush also makes it really easy to reach the inner and outer lashes to make your eyes as defined as possible. Same as the others, it washes off at the end of the day with just warm water.
Glossier Lash Slick Mascara
Yup, the mascara that kick started my whole revival with tubing mascaras, Glossier’s Lash Slick. It comes in pretty pink packaging and promises to be the perfect mascara for your daily lash needs. Being Glossier, it errs on the side of natural beauty, obviously. I mentioned the formula in more detail in this post, but I have been loving this so much more than I thought it would. Perfect for quickly coating the lashes to give them a little flutter and to seal other mascaras. If you love a formula for what it does for your lashes but not how it smudges then use a tubing one like this.
