File this review under perfumes that smell good enough to eat. It wasn’t a category I knew I needed, but gourmand fragrances always appeal to me and Shay & Blue Salt Caramel is a beautiful scent; I love salted caramel as an ingredient but finding the right mix between sweet and cloying is pretty hard. Luckily this has been blended perfectly.
Shay & Blue Salt Caramel
Top Note: Liquid caramel is expertly offset with tangy sea salt
Heart Note : The smoothness of tonka bean adds a touch of elegance
Base Note : Refined bourbon vanilla for depth in the base with sandalwood as a woodsy counterpoint to the sweetness
Salt Caramel is an award-winning rich, woody-vanilla fragrance. Inspired by English chocolatier to the Queen Charbonnel et Walker’s Sea Salt Caramel Truffles, this is an irresistible fragrance composed of waves of caramel and bourbon vanilla cut through with sea salt and sandalwood.
What Does It Smell Like?
On first spritz this smells like popcorn in the best kind of way. All of the warm freshness of popcorn with the buttery notes that make it pretty mouth-watering. All the syrupy notes in make the whole thing deliciously warm and cosy. But the salt note cuts through everything and makes sure the whole thing isn’t unpleasantly sweet. The salty note in it reminds me of the Jo Malone sea salt & wood sage which is like seaside saltiness. This is delicious and so addictive.
What’s It Similar To?
I’m guessing that if you’re big into gourmand fragrances like Mugler’s Angel or Jo Malone’s Nutmet & Ginger then you will love this. It smells like dessert in a really sophisticated way so imagine the moreish element of salted caramel itself and then imagine smelling like that all the time. Yup, it’s delicious. Shay & Blue Salt Caramel is gourmand done right.
