Long weekends have kind of become my thing. They’re the perfect way to have a break from the office without making too large a dent in your annual leave (or your wallet). Of course, travelling for short periods of time means I can’t go far, and I’ve found myself favouring a short-haul flight to a European city for my long weekends. Flying on budget airlines means I only really take hand-luggage with me; making packing beauty products tricky (especially for a beauty junkie like myself), so I’ve mastered the edit of Beauty Must-Haves For A City Break.
Beauty Must-Haves For A City Break – Haircare
Minis reign supreme when it comes to haircare you can pack in your hand luggage! I tend to make sure I have a few sets of minis at home that I can just pop in my bag when I’m travelling, but if I’ve run out they’re really easy to pick up at the airport. As my hair can get frizzy and dry if I don’t properly care for it, I’ve been favouring the Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner recently. They’re perfect for keeping my hair looking hydrated and healthy, and at 70ml each really don’t take up too much space (and are under the 100ml limit!)
I’m a bit of a skincare addict, and when I travel I like to make sure I can still give my skin a decent cleanse and moisturising every morning and evening! I always take a solid cleanser with me, because it means I’m not adding extra products to my 100ml liquids limit (FYI you can only take 10 per person, and they have to all fit into the plastic bags they give you!) The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter is a dream to use, it literally melts my makeup away and leaves my skin feeling really soft. As you can see, I’ve nearly finished mine so I’m going to need to stock up shortly.
When it comes to moisturiser, I tend to take a small tube, so it’s easy to apply and not as bulky as a jar of product. The Malin + Goetz Vitamin E face Moisturiser is my favourite to take with me, it’s a really lovely moisturiser and and is only 40ml! Again, with lip balm I go for a solid formula so it doesn’t cut into my 100ml liquids limit. I have a few solid balms that I like, and while stick formulas are the easiest to use, the NUXE Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm is just so gorgeous and hydrating I tend to take it with me to keep my lips in perfect condition, especially if I am going somewhere where the weather is considerably different to at home.
Makeup base products
Makeup is always the tricky one to pack, especially as this is where I easily (and quickly) fill up my 100ml allowance! So, I try to really limit the products that I take with me, and opt for the essentials rather than a full arsenal of products. Base-wise, I can’t go without a primer, so a mini of Benefit Porefessional always finds its way into my makeup bag. I also like to take a foundation with me, and as taking a proper bottle of liquid foundation can be difficult, I tend to opt for a foundation stick instead as it’s quick and easy to apply and doesn’t take up too much space.
The Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick is my current favourite and I tend to use it all over, then on any specific areas of redness for a fuller coverage. I love a bit of glow, so I also like to pack a highlighter stick. Again, this doesn’t take up too much space and doesn’t cut into my 100ml liquid limit. The Essence Holo Wow stick is perfect for an easily blendable wash of highlight that looks gorgeous with barely there makeup.
Eyes and lips
When I’m on holiday I really don’t like to spend too long doing my makeup, so I tend to just pack a lipstick and mascara – that’s it! Mascara-wise, I perfect to take a mini and Benefit They’re Real is my favourite right now! It gives me really full, defined lashes and is perfect for just wearing on its own. When it comes to lips, I just can’t resist packing MAC Mehr matte lipstick. It’s a really flattering blue-pink that works with basically any makeup look. I’ve gone through two bullets so far, and I know I’ll be buying many more in the future!
Again, I like to keep this as small as possible so it doesn’t take up too much space, so I always end up taking one of the many samples I have stashed in my beauty boxes at home. This mini bottle of Amo Ferragamo is perfect for travelling with, I just dab it on and the scent is truly gorgeous.
