As much as I love writing about my own beauty stories, I also enjoy reading about others just as much, if not more. I’m just really nosy. Enter the Dressing Table Diaries, an excuse to chat to some brilliant women in beauty and find out some of her absolute favourites. This instalment is all about editor extraordinaire, Emma Lynham. Emma oversees Escentual’s content and (having had the privilege of being an old colleague of hers I can safely say that) she knows her beauty. She’s my go-to for perfume recommendations and for French skincare routine advice.
What’s your daily go-to makeup look?
My dry skin can look a little ‘sandpaper chic’ if I’m not careful, so I like to dew it up with a quenching base like MAKE UP FOR EVER Water Blend, or everyone’s favourite does-it-all foundation, NARS Sheer Glow.
Cream blush is my beauty kryptonite – I have a collection that regularly brings tears to my husbands eyes. At the moment I’m living for a mixture of Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam (a heavenly coral-peach) and Stila Convertible Colour in Camellia, which has caramel tones that transform pale skin with an incredible bonne mine glow.
If you had to choose, what would be the three beauty products you can’t live without?
What’s your most repurchased product?
DHC Double Protection Mascara… I know, I need to get over my obsession already. I have rubbish lashes; they’re super short and straight, and any length that’s added to them looks artificial and clumpy. This mascara doesn’t do that, which makes it a bit of a unicorn in my opinion. It’s so smooth and has a really small user-friendly brush that lets you build and build without it looking too much. It’s also a tubing formula, so no more accidentally pulling lashes out by the root as you’re trying to wash your mascara off.
Do you have a signature perfume?
It has to be the one I wore for my wedding, Guerlain Mon Exclusif; truly feels like it was made for me! It has an incredible bow-shaped bottle (*cheers*), an almost-edible scent of lavender, caramel, salted butter and sandalwood (*cheering intensifies*) and it’s engraved with my name (*crowd goes wild*). I like to think that Mon Exclusif is what I would dream up if I were to ever create a perfume.
What would your ultimate Sunday night skincare pamper look like?
I savour the feeling of fresh, bare skin above all else, so I always overindex on the cleansing part of my routine. Normally I start with my favourite cleanser from L’Occitane, the Shea Butter Cleansing Oil, to loosen my makeup. Then I double tap with the ultra-gentle La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser. I use Bioderma Sensibio H2O around my eyes as nothing else seems to get rid of every last trace of eye makeup without the need for rubbing.
The rest is entirely dependent on how my skin is feeling! My dream routine would begin with Shiseido Ultimune to create a supercharged base for the rest of my routine, then some variant of hyaluronic acid and a replenishing, creamy moisturiser. I’m currently swapping between Darphin’s Intral Soothing Cream and Elemis’ Marine Cream – both are excellent!
