The best bit, for me, about going out is always getting ready. Sure, going out itself is fun but I absolutely relish the process of primping and preening. Being a makeup-obsessed blogger means I definitely spend a lot of time staring at my own reflection. Call me narcissistic, I call it research… Being that testing makeup takes up so much of my time, it only makes sense to make sure I’m applying it as best I can. Enter the Spotlite HD Makeup Perfecting ‘True’ Daylight Ultra-Bright LED Mirror, which mimics daylight and ensures any makeup application mistakes are a thing of the past.

The Benefits Of Good Lighting
Is there anything more glamorous than a dressing table? It makes me automatically think of movie starlets (Crawford, Monroe, Davis…) getting ready with their beauty routines. There’s something so timeless about it, and having a fancy setup was one of my priorities when Chris and I moved into our current flat. Unfortunately, Britain being Britain, daylight is often not on my side when it comes to illumination. This does not mesh well when I’m getting ready. Like the time I applied a new sample of foundation, went to a meeting and realised too late I looked like I had experienced a serious fake-tan fail. Getting ready pre-sunrise in British winter means relying on artificial lighting, which can mean makeup mistakes. Happily, my new mirror addition means I can still sit at my beloved dressing table and have a perfectly lit set-up. Having the perfect lighting every time I do my makeup means my eyeshadow is always going to be blended, I’ll never have foundation lines by my jaw and I can spot anything off before leaving the flat…
Makeup Mistakes Caused By Bad Lighting
We’ve all 100% been there. Seriously, makeup is hard. I’m hoping that my makeup mistake days might just be behind me, but I’ve had so many. The guilty party? Bad lighting. From unblended foundation to a wonky liner application and then an excessive amount of powder, I basically could have solved all my woes by having a good look at my face in natural light before leaving the house. It’s so easy to be overly heavy-handed when it comes to applying products or to spend too little time buffing and blending products into the skin. If you’re trying to conceal blemishes, smooth concealer over fine lines, battle pores or combat dryness then carefully applying your base with some super-bright lights is a must.

So, the mirror itself. Let me judge a book by its cover and note that it’s pink (and rose gold!), giving it immediate points in my book. It’s also not huge so it doesn’t take up too much room on my dressing table – it folds shut, like a laptop. Leaving it open means you can use the tray to store a lipstick or two. On the tech-side of things, it uses a daylight bulb (much like my photography lights), it can be dimmed and it’s charged using a USB cable. It can be mounted on the wall, used in the bathroom and it comes with a 10x magnifying mirror for super precision.
I’ve been using this everyday, and have noticed how much easier it is to do my base. Super flawless without having to double-check and it makes applying mascara far easier. Maybe it’s just me, but I always get mascara on my lids so the fact that this can be tilted up angle-wise means I don’t smudge it everywhere. I used to have a Boots mirror with lighting, which just looks hideously dull compared to this. The Spotlite HD Diamond 2.0 mirror is bright. You could just use this, middle of the night, and your makeup would look ace. It’s incredibly useful for a seamless makeup application, and I’ve found I’ve been using less foundation because I can see how my skin doesn’t need it. Instead, working on applying the product in lighter layers ends up with the finished result looking far more natural.

Do you have a dressing table? I always need to know where people apply their makeup because I’m so nosy, let me know!
