I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the role of bloggers and their influence when it comes to consumerism. Being a beauty blogger, I try and recommend a lot of products. I test everything I feature, but I still am conscious of the fact that enabling purchases has a responsibility. If I wouldn’t spend my own money on a product, then I wouldn’t want to feature it. Thinking about my beauty spending also led to me coming up with a rule for myself – I’m allowed to buy three items maximum a month. Including skincare, haircare, makeup, repurchases and pretty much anything. It makes me think a lot before I part with the cash, and all purchases are well-considered and hopefully a hit. So, this month I have picked up my three things and I’m here to report. Here are The Three Things I Bought In September!
Boucléme Curl Defining Gel
The last couple of months has seen me exploring a lot with natural haircare and products designed specifically for curlier hair. I’ve loosely been following the curly girl method (I’m doing a post on this for later in the week!) and I needed a curl gel. Having fallen in love with the Boucléme curl cream, going for the gel seemed like an obvious choice. Obviously it’s early days with this – I’ve used it three times at the point of writing – but it seems really good! It made my hair look like this. I just apply to soaking wet hair and then scrunch the gel out once my hair is dry.
Bobbi Brown Luxe Matte Colour in True Pink
I’m sure me buying a lipstick will come as no surprise to anyone. Least of all myself. STILL. These Bobbi Brown lipsticks are seriously gorgeous, and so very luxe indeed. There’s a whole new bunch of matte shades in a whole spectrum of colours, from nude to berries. The finish is super matte but light and comfortable. This shade, True Pink, is a nice medium pink that brightens up the complexion. It’s a nice little break away from the nude shades I’ve been obsessing over lately. I think the deeper hue is going to look more flattering in winter when I can look a little pale.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Palette
I saw this palette back on Instagram months ago and I fell in love. The colours just scream autumn to me, whilst still being wearable. Plus, I’ve been a big fan of the modern renaissance palette, which gets a lot of use. I managed to swatch the Norvina palette three times before actually buying it, so it was definitely a considered purchase. Having played around with it a few times, the formula is not the best. It’s still good and it’s fun to play with, but it’s not as good as MR. I know. Plus, the super shimmery shades on the top row look good when first applied but they fade pretty quickly. I need to play around with different brushes and primers plus the shade eccentric is all kinds of perfect.
