I’m so basic when it comes to my makeup choices but I’m not even the slightest bit sorry. After vowing my allegiance to all things nude pretty much the whole of 2018, I’ve finally succumbed to the dark side. Maybe because I’m paler and shying away from bronzer, but a swipe of berry lipstick is fuelling my makeup lust right now, and for the foreseeable.
I don’t have too many rules when it comes to picking a shade – different textures and formulas are all welcome here. I am staying away from liquid lipsticks for right now, because my lips seem to be impossibly dry. I’m dosing up on lip balm round the clock and trying to stay hydrated but ultimately gravitating towards more forgiving formulas.
Berry lipstick? In Autumn? Groundbreaking.
Make Up For Ever Lip Blush in Velvet Rosewood
The number one spot goes to… This incredible shade. I’ve been wearing it in the day and at night (although it didn’t quite survive dinner) and it’s pretty perfect in my eyes. The pencil shape makes it really easy to quickly scribble on to touch-up whilst on-the-go. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable on the lips – almost weightless – and it dries to a soft satin finish. The shade itself is a dreamy blend of berry and pink, making it incredibly wearable.
Glossier Generation G Lipstick In Jam
This shade looks deceivingly intimidating in its packaging, but on the lips transforms nicely into a true berry-jam hue. Can be worn really sheer or built up, depending on how brave you’re feeling. Jam is the perfect embodiment of the Glossier brand philosophy, with its easy to wear, minimalistic products. The formula is a little drying, but it does feel very light on the lips so it’s not a dealbreaker. Worth flagging if you hate any sort of drying lipstick.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in Grenadine
Finishing off with the balmiest of the textures – the crushed lip colours remain one of my favourite formulas, and are well worth checking out. Smushing together the comfort of a balm with a very decent amount of pigment, they’re a great go-to. Grenadine is especially great for this time of year, when a wash of brightening colour can be a mood-booster. Pigmented, soft, long-lasting and comfortable on the lips… I would recommend this formula to anyone.
