If I ever had to improvise a monologue, or stall for time, my topic of conversation would be skincare. I could talk about it all day, and I often do… I’m also lucky enough in my job and my blog to get to try a lot of skincare (also sadly for my bank balance I buy a lot!), so it sort of takes a lot to wow me enough to commit into using something consistently. Since moving, and streamlining, I’ve been very happy with my current skincare situation, and so it was time to check in with My Natural & Cruelty-Free Skincare Routine.
I am currently switching between three cleansers and one scrub, to be used interchangeably. My evening routine involves taking off mascara/first cleanse with the REN 3-in-1 cleansing water, which is a super gentle micellar water that never stings or leaves a film on the skin. Then, two pumps of the Neighbourhood Botanicals Face Off cleanser massaged in for a minute makes sure skin is super clean and soft (I rinse off with a warm flannel, or cold if we’re having a heatwave light right now!). The Pai Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is a long-time favourite, and what I use whenever skin is feeling a little irritated, dry or I use it in the morning. I would forever repurchase. Then, newer to my routine is the Upcircle Face Scrub, which has got to be the best face scrub ever. Gentle enough to not leave skin red but still effective enough to properly exfoliate and leave skin silky smooth. Plus, it smells like coffee so a must for sleepy mornings. I’m using this twice a week (or whenever I wash my hair to minimise any mess.
Herbivore Rose Hibiscus face mist – used post-cleanse morning and night. This is nice and refreshing, but any face mist would do in my opinion, as I use to refresh and keep skin damp throughout skincare routine.
REN Ready Steady Glow Tonic – used at night, 3/4 times a week. I loove this, it’s a fantastic daily tonic to gently exfoliate. I find it works really well at keeping pores unclogged and therefore blemishes at bay – I notice when I skip this.
Pai Chamomile & Rosehip moisturiser & eye cream– mostly used in mornings. Love Pai, love both of these to hydrate and soothe.
Tropic Elixir – used mostly at night. A rosehip-based oil that works really well at boosting skin’s glow overnight.
Tropic Eye Dream – used nightly, a lovely rich balm.
I’m currently using the s5 Replenish Serum under any moisturiser, or just under SPF on particularly hot days. It’s super rich (basically an oil in texture) but manages to sink into the skin quickly, leaving the complexion feeling a lot more hydrated and soothed. s5 is a sister-brand to one of my favourites, Evolve, and has lots of beautiful clinical-led, natural formulas. I also mix in any of the BYBI boosters as and when I need (full post on those here).
The last step in my skincare routine, every morning, is an application of SPF. The current winner is the REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF30, which manages to be natural (it’s physical/zinc-based), non-greasy and a great base for makeup. Magic! It does take a few seconds to rub into the skin to let the formula absorb, and it leaves a little tint on the skin thanks to the zinc content.
