If my summer makeup could be defined in one word it would be… minimal. With the occasional bright lip. Not just any bright lip, though. I’m talking specifically a bright lip that emulates the look you get just after a popsicle or an ice lolly. Sheer, a little diffused and maybe a bit smudgy. Unfortunately, a constant stream of ice lollies isn’t attainable, so I’m turning to the next best thing… Popsicle Lipsticks.
lilah b. Tinted Lip Balm in b. cheeky – link
With a less is more ethos, lilah b. is a brand that really speaks to me right now. Minimal products, minimal packaging (it looks like a little pebble!) and formulas designed to enhance rather than change, the whole brand is really interesting (plus, clean formulations). This little pot of tinted balm is on the drier side of balms, so it leaves behind a mostly natural/matte finish when on the lips. Not sticky or glossy at all. The colour, though. Oh the colour. The perfect pinky red that makes your lips look a little bitten and definitely like they’ve been stained by a popsicle. Perfection.
RMS Lip Shine in Sacred – link
I fairly recently confessed my love for all things RMS in this post, but this new addition to my collection is the ultimate summer shade™. Sacred is just the perfect watermelon red shade that looks great when paired with minimal makeup everywhere else. Very low maintenance, with enough of a punchy pink kick to keep it interesting. The formula on these is superb – sheer but ultimately buildable, coconut-based, hydrating and the colour gently leaves behind a stain for fuss-free wear-time. Plus, the pots have that collectibility factor…
Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Sweetness – link
My old faithful, the metal packaging on this is looking a little… lived-in, thanks to its status as a makeup bag must-have. I like it, it’s looking loved! If you want a formula with maximum hydration, then this is the one for you. It’s made with castor seed oil, shea butter and jojoba seed oil amongst other ingredients, which does make it feel incredibly nourishing whilst wearing. It essentially doesn’t feel different to a traditional balm whilst on the lips but it somehow also manages to be pretty pigmented when it comes down to it. Buildable, yes, and gloriously smudge-able in the best way. A blotted lip that looks diffused so it’s simultaneously a noticeable hit of colour and also gives off the ultimate carefree vibe. The shade Sweetness is my kind of summer jam – a poppy coral that errs on the side of orange.
