It’s Organic September! Yup, a whole month dedicated to all things organic. I can fully get behind things like organic chocolate and coffee, but my true love lies with my Organic Beauty Favourites. Skincare, haircare and makeup picks that I would definitely recommend as standalone products but their organic credentials are also worth highlighting…
Why Organic Beauty?
When a product is organic, it generally means that it has been made with organically farmed ingredients and without questionable ingredients, parabens and synthetic fragrances/dyes. Although not a requirement, a brand utilising organic formulations means that the products often are more sustainable with transparency when it comes to formulations and ingredients. The products themselves are also kinder to the environment – when your organic cleanser washes down the drain, it has less of an impact on the planet.
Within the organic beauty sector lies a lot of greenwashing… Brands can claim that they are organic even if the overall ingredients contain 1% of organic origin. There isn’t a lot of regulation, which means that being a savvy consumer is entirely down to us, the customer. There’s Soil Association, who can help to bring some clarity to the market – they’re in the midst of their Organic Beauty & Wellbeing Week, with loads of information and product recommendations here.
I’ve been a fan of Pai for a long time, and have been using their Gentle Hydrating Cleanser for years. Long before I became more interested in just using natural skincare brands. I’ve repurchased it numerous times, and will continue to do so… It’s an excellent cleanser. It hydrates the skin as it works all whilst removing makeup and leaving your face feeling soft and clean. I use it as a second cleanse or first thing in the morning most days.
A look through my most recent posts will show that I’m no stranger to RMS. The organic, coconut-based makeup line is filled with little multi-tasking pots of some really lovely makeup pieces. I love their cream shadows, lip glosses and of course, their cult-favourite highlighter. You can see more on my thoughts of RMS here.
John Masters Organics
When it comes to organic haircare, JMO has got it pretty much covered! Amazing plant-based formulas that use lovely ingredients all whilst the products work just as well (if not better) than your conventional haircare. I love their hair milk and hairspray in particular. You can see more on the brand here.
English-based skincare brand Evolve makes all their organic products in small batches – their products are beautiful, affordable and effective. I love the daily defence moisture mist for spritzing on skin throughout the day.
Sustainable makeup pioneer, Kjaer Weiss, is also the formulator of some beautiful organic makeup. Yup, refillable packaging and hard-working, high-end formulas. I love pretty much everything I’ve tried from the brand, although their cream blushes and lip glosses are a particular favourite. You can see more on the brand here.
